About the museum

The exhibition in Plaue, an old fishing village on the Havel and today a district of Brandenburg an der Havel, was set up by the Plaue citizens' association. It focuses on how fishing has changed over time and is devoted to the tradition of this craft in the city of Brandenburg an der Havel, and especially in Plaue.

The exhibition shows scenes from the work and life of fishermen around 1900. Because terms such as Reppen (ropes), Seleken (cords) and das Große Garn (dragnet) have come down to us from the Middle Ages, many of the devices stand for a long fishing tradition. Alongside historic pieces, a large fish trap in the middle of the room shows that fishing still takes place in Plaue today.
