About the museum
The Heimatmuseum of Kenn is housed in a corner farmhouse from 1764, a baroque building in the village center on the Moselle. It displays more than 800 objects that document the everyday life of village residents in earlier centuries: a fully furnished farmhouse and a barn with agricultural equipment.
The Römerkeller (Roman cellar) lies directly in front of the museum. Since the early nineteenth century, builders in the village center of Kenn have repeatedly come across remains of a large Roman villa with several mosaic floors. In 1988, construction work directly in front of the Heimatmuseum uncovered three successive cellar rooms from the mid-second century AD. The walls had been plastered and painted in large geometric fields. After the Germanic raids of 275 AD, the cellars were filled with rubble, which also contained painted wall plaster and column fragments.
The municipality of Kenn lists the Heimatmuseum on its website among its sights; it is currently closed.
