About the museum
The Adlerturm is a watchtower of the medieval Dortmund city fortifications, rebuilt in 1992. It stands on the original foundations, which were preserved by an elaborate pillar construction and remain visible to visitors.
On six levels, the tower houses an interactive children's museum on the medieval history of the free imperial and Hanseatic city of Dortmund. It is a branch of the Museum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte (Museum of Art and Cultural History). The concept is aimed primarily at children aged four to twelve and follows the motto "Anfassen, Benutzen, Begreifen" (touch, use, understand).
Together with figures such as Agnes von der Vierbecke, Saint Reinoldus and Mayor Klepping, children experience the Middle Ages at hands-on stations. In the clothing and armor room they can dress up, and at listening and smelling stations they perceive the city of the past with all their senses.
