About the museum

The Kobisenmühle belongs to the listed Kobisenhof in the district of Oberkirnach in St. Georgen. In 1988, the local heritage association began to preserve and restore the derelict household mill. A small group of members took on the work on the ruin.

Since 1996, the mill has been operated for demonstration grinding. It has two grinding stones, and some of its working parts are around 400 years old. A Gerbgang (grain-cleaning mechanism) separates the grain from the husks.

During every guided tour, the history and function are explained and flour is ground. On German Mill Day (Deutscher Mühlentag), which falls on Whit Monday, there are demonstrations and refreshments.
