KunstForum Eifel

About the museum

The KunstForumEifel moved in 2007 into the former Gemünd elementary school, which had been completely renovated beforehand. The friends' association Maler der Eifel e.V. rented the building from the town of Schleiden and opened the house on March 26, 2007. It has two bright floors on which changing exhibitions of contemporary art take place: not only painting, but also sculpture, installations and photography.

A second focus is the Eifel painters, whose works appear in changing presentations. From 2013 to 2015, the association inventoried paintings and prints by deceased Eifel painters with public funding; since then, the holdings can be viewed on touchscreens in the house. The program is complemented by themed exhibitions such as the series on earth, water, fire and air, the annual show "Bilder fürs Sofa" (Pictures for the Sofa), and concerts in the Eifelserenade series.

In the flood night of July 14 to 15, 2021, the water stood 97 centimeters high on the ground floor; the basement, heating and electrics were destroyed, and the house remained closed for a long time. Today it opens again on weekends. The friends' association has around 200 members, who run the house as volunteers.
