Rotkreuz-Museum vogelsang ip
Germany's largest Red Cross museum on the grounds of Vogelsang IP with two exhibition buildings on humanitarian aid and Red Cross history.
About the museum
The museum is located in the middle of the grounds of the former Nazi Ordensburg Vogelsang in the Eifel National Park. After 1946 the site served for decades as a British and later Belgian military training area; since the military withdrew in 2005, the former camp has been used as a place of learning and for visitors. The Red Cross took over two former accommodation buildings there.
On July 19, 2011, an initially provisional exhibition opened. Run by a volunteer team and closely linked to the educational work of the Red Cross Academy vogelsang ip, it grew into Germany's largest Red Cross museum; after the museums in Geneva and Castiglione, it is considered the third largest of the international movement. In 2023 the DRK Nordrhein state association and the DRK Euskirchen district association founded a joint sponsoring association, which also created the first full-time positions.
Today the exhibition is spread across two buildings with around 40 media stations. The Dr.-Rudolf-Seiters-Haus deals with the principles and worldwide operations of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement, human rights, and international humanitarian law; the Haus Nordrhein tells the history of the Red Cross in the Rhineland from Solferino to the relocation of its headquarters to Berlin. The offering is complemented by projects such as the trail "One Mile for Future" and the Red Cross Escape House (Rotkreuz-Fluchthaus), which were created in international youth camps.
