About the museum
The Nationalpark-Tor Heimbach is housed in Heimbach's historic railway station building, so it is easy to reach by train. It is one of the national park gates, the visitor houses of Eifel National Park, and combines a tourist information office with a permanent exhibition.
The exhibition "Waldgeheimnisse" (Forest Secrets) shows the habitats of the beech forest around the gate. A walk-in audio play leads visitors through a forest labyrinth, where the wildcat, the house's flagship animal, chats with a black stork about its experiences in the national park. Tactile specimens, texts in Braille and a film about the nature and landscape of the national park make the exhibition accessible to blind and sighted visitors.
The gate is also the starting point of the Kloster-Route ranger tour, which takes place on Fridays.
