About the museum
The Kitzscher local history museum opened on July 1, 2001, for the town's 750th anniversary, at Trageser Straße 20 across from the market square. When the town returned the rooms to their owner, the museum moved in 2007 to new rooms directly on the market square.
Because the rent there was no longer affordable for the town and the lease expired at the end of 2010, a new home had to be found. After renovation work, the museum moved into the former town hall cellar on Ernst-Schneller-Straße, where it is today; members of the local heritage association and many residents helped with the design.
The permanent exhibition shows everyday objects from times past and a model of the former Kitzscher castle; documents on land reform in Kitzscher and the surrounding area are also on continuous display. Changing exhibitions present artistic hobbies and support regional artists.
