About the museum
The museum in Tiefenbach in the Upper Palatinate is dedicated to the artist Ludwig Gebhard, who was born in the village in 1933 and died in Landsberg am Lech in 2007. From 1959 to 1965 Gebhard studied painting and graphic arts at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, after which he worked as a freelance artist in Munich and Landsberg.
He is considered one of the important printmakers of contemporary art, above all for his color linocuts. More than 120 solo exhibitions at home and abroad and over 40 publications attest to his work. His works are held, among others, by the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München, the Pinakothek der Moderne and the Albertina in Vienna.
The permanent exhibition shows printed works on classic themes such as heads, figures, still lifes and landscapes. In two further exhibition rooms, a changing show from his estate is presented each year on International Museum Day. The museum is complemented by a sculpture trail with Gebhard's sculptures in the village.
