About the museum
The MachMitMuseum in Aurich opened in 2001 and added an offering for children to the Historical Museum of the East Frisian residence city. For its concept it received the Kinderkulturpreis (children's culture award) of the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk (German Children's Fund) in its opening year. Since then, active doing has been at the center: following the principle of "Learning by Doing," children are not handed topics to take in, but explore, build and try things out for themselves.
Each year the house dedicates itself to a new theme, for which the stations and theme rooms are redesigned. The museum works closely with the city's art school; both institutions operate under the name "miraculum" and are run by the city of Aurich. School classes and daycare centers can combine the exhibition with guided tours and creative workshops at the art school.
After more than forty years of the art school and 25 years of the MachMitMuseum, the miraculum is to be united under one roof from 2027.
