Memorium Nürnberger Prozesse

Exhibition in the Nuremberg Palace of Justice on the Nuremberg Trials – with the historic Courtroom 600 at its heart.

Opening hoursAdmission from €7.50 Partially accessible

About the museum

In November 1945, the trial of leading representatives of the Nazi regime before the International Military Tribunal began in Courtroom 600 (Schwurgerichtssaal 600) of the Nuremberg Palace of Justice. Twelve further trials, the so-called Subsequent Nuremberg Trials, followed in the same place until 1949. Afterward, the Bavarian judiciary used the courtroom again for its own proceedings.

From May 2000, the Museen der Stadt Nürnberg (Nuremberg municipal museums) offered weekend tours of the courtroom, which quickly attracted more and more visitors. This gave rise to the idea of a permanent facility, which was realized with funding from the Free State of Bavaria and the federal government: from 2009, the east wing of the courthouse was remodeled, and in November 2010 the permanent exhibition opened on the floor above the courtroom.

The exhibition relies mainly on documents, photographs, and film and audio recordings; among the few original objects are parts of the defendants' dock. It covers the background and course of the main trial, the subsequent trials, the later prosecution of Nazi crimes, and the development of international criminal law up to the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

Since March 2020, no court hearings have taken place in Courtroom 600, so it is now a regular part of the tour. Since November 2022, the media installation "Zeitreise Saal 600" has virtually brought the room back to its 1945/46 state. The Memorium shows temporary exhibitions in the Cube 600 opposite the building; an expansion of the permanent exhibition is being planned.
