About the museum

The Militärhistorisches Museum der Stadt Goslar, usually called the Jäger-Erinnerungsstätte locally, commemorates the Hanoverian Jäger Battalion No. 10, which was stationed in Goslar from 1838 to 1945. It is run by the Kameradschaft Ehemalige Goslarer Jäger, a heritage association that has existed since 1887 and runs the house on a voluntary basis.

The collection moved around the city for a long time: around 1900 Goslar Jäger and marksmen set up a Jäger's home in the Hotel Achtermann; this use ended in 1953, after which the items were stored first in a restaurant and from 1976 in the attics of the barracks. On June 1, 1989, the museum was finally able to open in two rooms in the side wing of the Großes Heiliges Kreuz on Hoher Weg.

On display are uniforms, headgear, edged weapons, orders, equipment and documents from the period between 1714 and 1945. Since 2013 there has also been a corner on the Goslar air base (Fliegerhorst) and the Bundeswehr, and since 2019 a photo documentation on the Bundesgrenzschutz (Federal Border Guard), which was housed in the Jäger barracks until 2000.
