About the museum
The mineral display in Vohenstrauß is a privately run house. Most of the pieces were collected over many decades by the mineralogist Friedrich Zahn; today the exhibition is looked after by Ursula Ochantel.
The collection comprises more than 3,000 specimens from around the world, but its focus is on the Upper Palatinate. On show are, among others, well-crystallized fluorites and barites from the Wölsendorf fluorspar district, red, yellow and green garnet crystals, finds from the Hagendorf local collection, rose quartz from Pleystein and beryl. The house also includes painted farmhouse parlors.
