About the museum
The Waldthurn local history museum is run by the Oberpfälzer Waldverein Waldthurn. It is housed in an outbuilding right next to the new town hall on Vohenstraußer Straße, the former sisters' residence. The collection was already on show in these rooms at the turn of the year 2015/16; before that, the local heritage officer had displayed parts of the holdings in the old town hall.
The collection preserves artifacts from Waldthurn and its surroundings. Focal points are flax processing, weaving with a historic loom, reverse glass painting by Josef Bodensteiner, and village history. The permanent exhibition also includes nativity figures, among them pieces from East Africa that a missionary of the parish donated.
