About the museum
The collection goes back to Alois Schmuderer, who gathered minerals for about 45 years. His finds came mainly from the Hoher Bogen, the Lamer Winkel and the Arnbruck area. He died in 2001 at the age of 70.
In mid-2007 his son Rudolf Schmuderer and his wife Petra built a new commercial building in Arrach and moved the mineral museum there. Today 37 display cases show about 2,000 mineral specimens from East Bavaria, with a focus on the Bavarian Forest, along with colorful, well-crystallized pieces from all over the world. The museum is on the third floor of the Drexler-Hof.
