About the museum
The MiniaturWelten Stuttgart show the installation of model maker Wolfgang Frey, who spent around 15 years building a model of Stuttgart as it looked in the 1980s and 1990s. Frey researched, planned and built much of it himself.
The display includes around 450 buildings, about 2,500 hand-painted vehicles and 2,500 individually made gravestones. The centerpiece is the Stuttgart main station (Bonatzbau), with tracks and a signal box including an eight-meter-long signal board; after two relocations the wiring was lost, so the control panel is currently out of operation. The show is complemented by works by the artists' collective SOUP.
A light and sound show runs once an hour and shows Stuttgart by night as well. The exhibition is funded by admission and donation income and by a friends' association.
