About the museum
At Augustusburg Castle on the edge of the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains), the motorcycle museum presents the development of the motorized two-wheeler from its earliest beginnings to the present day, across 1,200 square meters. More than 170 machines are on display, including a fire-red DKW Sport 500 and an original Brough Superior SS 80 Special. According to the museum, the display covers around 150 years of European two-wheeler history, with series-production models as well as racing machines and one-offs.
A special focus is on the Saxon marques DKW, Auto Union and MZ: the presentation of these successful motorcycle makers is considered unique worldwide. Films, a sound simulator and the smell of gasoline are meant to make the history of technology tangible to the senses. There is also a showroom for rotating displays.
A lively events program takes place around the museum: biker and vintage vehicle meetings in January, August and October, including the traditional winter meeting and the autumn classic vehicle meeting on October 3, as well as the lecture series "Benzingeflüster." The museum is part of the Biker Ticket, which also covers Schloss Wildeck, the Enduro Museum in Zschopau and the Museum für sächsische Fahrzeuge in Chemnitz. It is run by the Schlossbetriebe (castle operators) Augustusburg, Scharfenstein and Lichtenwalde.
