About the museum
The museum goes back to the working group Heimatsammlung (local history collection), founded in 1982 within the Kulturverein Bordesholmer Land (cultural association). After several exhibitions in the Alten Kreishaus, it moved in 1986 into its first own rooms in the building of the Alte Post on the Lindenplatz on the monastery island.
The local history collection shows written and pictorial documents on the past and present of the Bordesholmer Land and the former Amt Bordesholm, as well as textiles and tools from household, farming and crafts. Several special exhibitions on the history, culture and everyday life of the region are held every year.
In addition, the working group looks after a historic vaulted cellar with a permanent exhibition on the Bordesholm monastery and an audiovisual installation on the history of the monastery and the town. An archive complements the offer. In the entrance area of the Verwaltungsakademie (administration academy), sculptures by the sculptor Margret Erichsen-Worch are also on display.
