First larger group of works by the Argentine-born architect and artist Osvaldo Romberg (1938–2019) in the Villa Wachholtz: sculptures, watercolours of church floor plans, suitcase works, altered books and stop-motion films.
Anniversary show “Aus dem Archiv” (From the Archive) marking 25 years, with works from the collection and from the previous 85 exhibitions, including Pit Kroke, Leiko Ikemura and Mimmo Paladino; the selection changes over the course of the year.
About the museum
The Herbert Gerisch Foundation was established in 2001 and is based in Neumünster, the home of the founding couple Brigitte and Herbert Gerisch. The entrepreneur wanted to turn the former textile and leather town into a "city of modern sculpture".
In 2002 the founders began building a sculpture collection designed to grow every year. It includes works by international artists and is set within a three-hectare English-style landscape park. Further works were added later, for example by Olaf Nicolai, Bogomir Ecker, Brigitte Kowanz and Carsten Höller.
The park merges seamlessly into the restored historic reform garden by the Lübeck garden architect Harry Maasz. Besides Villa Wachholtz, the grounds include a gallery, bungalow, coach house and basement as exhibition spaces, as well as a café.
