About the museum
The Uhingen Town Museum is housed in the Berchtoldshof, a historic half-timbered building first mentioned in the 14th century. It is considered the oldest building in town and also houses the Foto-Museum Uhingen on the first floor.
The exhibition is divided into three areas. The first shows the settlement of the lower Fils valley from the Stone Age to the Alemannic period, including grave finds, weapons, household items and hoard finds from the Urnfield period. The second is devoted to medieval glassmaking in the Nassach valley, which was carried on from the 14th century until 1553; tools, reconstructions and numerous glass fragments come, among other sources, from excavations by the Landesdenkmalamt (state heritage office).
In the attic, the Heimatstube presents the Georg Esenwein collection of farm tools and household implements from everyday rural life, including a rare woven straw beehive.
