Special exhibition on the incorporation of Biebrich into Wiesbaden 100 years ago and on the 150th anniversary of the Biebrich town hall.
The museum goes back to a local history museum that the Biebrich Beautification and Tourism Association opened on August 18, 1909 in the Mosburg in the palace park. After the end of the war in 1945 it had to close because of looting. A large exhibition for the 1100th anniversary of Biebrich in the palace in 1974 gave the impulse for a new start: in May 1978 the local history museum reopened with the exhibition "Biebrich als Residenzstadt" on the first floor of the town hall.
Since 1989 the collection has been housed in the former Biebrich Stadtbad and is displayed on around 350 square meters. It tells the story of Biebrich and Mosbach within the Duchy of Nassau, which had its residence here for a hundred years. In 2004, on the association's initiative, industrial history was added, to which companies such as Dyckerhoff, Kalle, Albert, Henkell and Heckel made significant contributions.
The holdings range from fossils from the Mosbach sands, including a roughly 20-million-year-old Wattschnecke (mudflat snail), through documents, photos, paintings, furniture and coins, to industrial products. There is also a document archive, a specialist library on local history and a picture file, which can be used for research. A volunteer team of three runs the museum.
