Art exhibition of watercolours by the architect and artist Dongmei Lisowski, showing Bergedorf and Hamburg as places of memory, encounter and change.
The museum is located in Bergedorf Castle, which began in the 13th century as a moated castle (Wasserburg) on the Bille river and was expanded and remodeled over the centuries. No princes ever lived here: the building served as an administrative seat for landed lords and bailiffs and later for the Hamburg senators responsible for Bergedorf. Today it stands in a listed park and is considered a landmark of the district.
Since 1953, the castle has housed the Museum für Bergedorf und die Vierlande. Together with the Rieck Haus open-air museum in Curslack, it belongs to Bergedorf's museum landscape.
In October 2023, the completely redesigned permanent exhibition "stadtlandfluss – unterwegs in Bergedorf" opened. Through themed rooms, it traces Bergedorf's development from village to suburban metropolis, with historical objects, room installations, photographs, media stations, eyewitness interviews, and games. A walk through the building also explains the history of the castle itself. In addition, the museum shows changing exhibitions on social questions and showcases of regional artists, and offers a regular events program.
