About the museum
Schneeberg grew into a mining town from the 15th century onward thanks to rich silver and cobalt deposits. From the everyday life of the miners and their families, a distinctive folk art developed, which the museum on the Obere Zobelgasse presents.
The collection includes carved miners' figures in costume, pyramids and other woodwork, ivory carvings, and pewter works. A model of the Grube Weißer Hirsch (Weißer Hirsch mine) makes the work underground visible. The picture is completed by wooden Christmas nativity scenes and bobbin lace with old pattern books, which recall the handicraft of the region.
The museum belongs to the museums of the mining town of Schneeberg and is presented together with the Technisches Museum Siebenschlehener Pochwerk.
