The Siebenschlehener Pochwerk (ore-stamping mill) belonged to the Fundgrube Siebenschlehen, first mentioned in 1495, and processed the ore mined there. From it came, among other things, the famous cobalt blue. The operating water came through the roughly 600-meter-long Pochwerksgraben from the Lindenauer Teich; from 1852 two six-meter water wheels, set in stone wheel houses, replaced the older wheels.
The complex consists of several interconnected processing buildings of different ages. The two-story main building is a half-timbered structure with a boarded upper floor. After the near-complete collapse of Schneeberg mining in 1924, the mill was shut down in 1929, brought back into operation in 1942 for war needs, and briefly used after 1945 to process uranium ore.
Since 1990, the city administration of Schneeberg has looked after the preservation of the building fabric; the ensemble was gradually reconstructed and developed into a technical museum. Today the house shows an exhibition on cobalt mining in the Schneeberg mining district, the cobalt chambers, and the house of the mill foreman (Pochwerksteiger). During demonstrations, the water wheel sets the stamps in motion. In addition, the 204-meter-long drainage tunnel (Abzugsrösche) can be entered, and an approximately eight-kilometer mining education trail can be walked.
