From October 17, 2026
Special exhibition on the history of the Joachimsthalschen Gymnasium in Templin; opening on 17 October 2026 at 15:00.
The Prenzlauer Tor was built around 1300 together with the city wall and was enlarged in the 15th century with an outer gate and a Zwinger (fortified courtyard). Around 1600 the Waldemarsgang added an extra passage, so that traffic could also be regulated on the town side. When the road layout changed in 1866, the gate lost its function and was used as the city's fire engine house.
Since 1957 the gate has housed the city museum. After the renovation in 2010, the space between the gate and the outer gate became a spacious exhibition hall, and the cloister walk was reopened. The newly designed display opened in June 2021.
The permanent exhibition "Die Stadt, das Land und ein Tor dazwischen" is organized into three themes: town life, the landscape with forests and lakes around Templin, and tourism. In the Waldemarsgang, people, institutions and places that shaped the town over 750 years are presented. Selected objects are also available online via museum-digital.
