Heimatstube Warthe

Small village museum in the former smithy of Warthe in the Uckermark, with objects that tell stories from the village.

Opening hours Café

About the museum

The Heimatstube (local history room) Warthe is located in the middle of the village green, in the former village smithy. From 1885 to 1960 the master smiths Schmöker, father and son, ran the workshop; afterward the agricultural cooperative (LPG) took it over and closed it eleven years later. Until the village school closed, the building served as an additional classroom.

A local history room was opened here for the village's 700th anniversary. In 2026 the house was re-established as a museum under the title "Warther Geschichten – Objekte erzählen" (Warthe Stories – Objects Tell). Residents brought objects with their stories to a storytelling café, and the history working group of the culture and local heritage association researched further objects.

The exhibition is considered the smallest village museum in Germany. A blueberry rake, a rusty steel helmet, a Kasperle puppet and a charred beam stand for events and people from the village. A sign at the village entrance, behind the bus stop, also commemorates the fighting in April 1945, in which almost all the houses burned down.
