About the museum
The museum occupies a roughly 300-year-old house built by monastery administrator Konrad Winkelblech. Special features of the building include painted wooden paneling with landscapes of the Rhine floodplains.
The exhibition combines viticulture and town history: original 19th-century equipment shows how grapes were collected in wooden vats and pressed with iron spindles; barrels and references to coopering are also on display. The town history ranges from the Romans introducing viticulture to the Palatinate, through the influence of the monastery, to the Revolutionary Wars of the 1790s and the period of King Ludwig I, who had the nearby Villa Ludwigshöhe built.
Everyday objects such as coal stoves and laundry equipment, a section on school history and a museum storeroom complement the route.
