About the museum

Behind the museum is the association Verein für Zivil- und Wehrtechnik e.V., which was founded in Bad Windsheim in 2005 with the aim of displaying historic military technology to the public. In summer 2006, the Uffenheim town council gave the green light for a museum on the grounds of the former Grombach furniture factory on Wiesenstraße, where the collection is still housed today.

On around 5,700 square meters, military wheeled and tracked vehicles of the Bundeswehr, the Nationale Volksarmee (East German army), and the US Army stand alongside civilian vintage cars and motorcycles. Many vehicles are kept in running order or restored by the association's members; at the annual museum festival on the first weekend in June, they roll across the large outdoor grounds. The display is complemented by uniforms, medals, weapons, artillery pieces, and contemporary historical documents from various decades and countries.

A separate department is devoted to communications technology: radios, field telephones, switchboards, telephones, computers, and mobile phones trace the development of telecommunications. In addition to its own pieces and loans, the association mainly shows objects from private collectors. The museum is run entirely by volunteers and is open from April to October on the first Sunday of each month.
