Site-specific exhibition by the artist with light installations, painting and spatial interventions: on the ground floor a new work on digital communication, on the upper floor references to geometric colour bodies.
About the museum
The roots of the museum lie in the gallery “Studio A”, which the physician Herbert Augat opened in 1961 in his private house in Otterndorf, showing modern abstract art. After Augat's early death, the photographer Walter Steffens and the artist Klaus Staudt took up the idea, and in 1974 the “studio a” was founded in the historic gatehouse under public sponsorship.
In the following decades the institution moved several times, in 1985 to the Stadtscheune (town barn), and built up its collection through donations, purchases and loans. Initially the focus was on concrete and constructive art after 1945; since the late 1990s the profile has covered non-objective art in its full breadth, from Informel to spatial installation.
Since moving to Marktstraße 10, the museum has rooms used solely for museum operations, with about 340 square meters of exhibition space on two floors. The sponsor is the Landkreis Cuxhaven (Cuxhaven district); since March 2024 Wilko Austermann has directed the house and is giving greater attention to digitally shaped abstract art and to women artists.
