About the museum
The name of the museum is Franconian: a "Schüpfla" is a small shed. It once belonged to the gate area of the Dominican convent in Frauenaurach and was originally longer; through the gate it was connected to the building opposite, which served for about 250 years as the Amtshaus (administrative building) from which the convent's property was managed.
Since the museum was founded in 1982, the local history, which had long been largely forgotten, has been researched. The sponsor is the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein Erlangen, and the work in the house is carried out voluntarily by the Arbeitskreis Frauenaurach. The results are shown in a small history section, which runs from the convent era through the margraviate residence to the margrave's move to Erlangen, and in changing themed exhibitions.
The permanent exhibition shows how people in and around Frauenaurach lived about a hundred years ago, in kitchen, parlor and bedroom. A shoemaker's workshop from around 1920 stands for the craft businesses that long shaped daily life in the village. The museum also includes the historic Feuerhaus with agricultural tools and depictions of former trades; its attic serves as a depot.
