About the museum
The Deutschhof goes back to a compound of the Teutonic Order in Heilbronn. Between 1712 and 1718, the baroque wing complex with its spacious inner courtyard was built to plans by Wilhelm Heinrich Behringer. When Heilbronn fell to Württemberg in 1803 and the order was dissolved two years later, the Deutschhof also passed into Württemberg ownership; until 1850 it served as a barracks, after which it housed, among other things, courts.
During an air raid in December 1944, only the outer walls of the complex survived. From the 1950s the exterior was restored. In 1976 the city archive moved in, and in 1991 the permanent exhibitions of the Heilbronn Municipal Museums followed. Together with the Volkshochschule (adult education center), the building forms the Kulturzentrum Deutschhof (Deutschhof Cultural Center).
Since January 2026, the four collection areas of archaeology, natural history, cultural history and art history have been on display together under one roof for the first time, arranged chronologically. The permanent exhibitions range from the geological history of the region to table and flatware silver from Heilbronn's silverware industry, historical weights and measures, and Neckar river navigation.
