About the museum
The Ostseebad Binz museum shows how the fishing and farming village of Binz became a popular seaside resort. It is located in the building of the narrow-gauge railway station, in the rooms of the municipal library, on about 160 square meters.
It is run by the volunteer friends' association together with the Kurverwaltung (spa administration). The collection mainly documents accommodation and bathing culture: furniture, tableware and furnishings from hotels and guesthouses of the Gründerzeit, historic swimwear, a postcard collection, and a model of the first Kurhaus (spa house) in Binz. Other rooms are dedicated to the lives of fishermen and farmers more than a hundred years ago, to the narrow-gauge railway “Rasender Roland”, and to the Seebrücke pier disaster of 1912.
In the Binz cemetery, the friends' association has also set up a lapidarium, collecting gravestones of personalities who shaped the town.
