About the museum
The museum in Eschershausen commemorates the writer Wilhelm Raabe (1831 to 1910), who was born here on September 8, 1831. His novels and stories, often with idiosyncratic protagonists and a critical view of society, made him one of the well-known authors of the 19th century.
The exhibition presents Raabe's biography and literary work at several thematic stations. The displays include museum objects and loans from the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum and private owners; Raabe's roots in the Weser region and the Braunschweig area are also covered. The house serves both as a memorial site and as a venue for cultural events.
The town of Eschershausen is currently running the museum on a limited basis and is working on reorganizing the rooms and the exhibition. It has been announced that the Raabe Museum will be expanded into a Raabe and local history museum, which will also show items from the town archive.
