About the museum
The museum opened in 2010 and is housed in the "Haus auf der Höhe", a villa built in 1860 and expanded in 1904 by the architect Metzendorf, south of Darmstadt. The painter Heidy Stangenberg-Merck grew up in this house.
Over four floors and around 800 square meters it mainly shows her work, along with works by her mother Marietta Merck and by Karl Stangenberg. In the basement, "Artificium" sells art, books and CDs.
The café "Kunstgenuss" serves drinks and pastries with a view over the Rhine plain. The well-kept park is accessible only on special occasions or during guided tours.
