About the museum
The listed villa in Zell am Harmersbach was built in 1830 by a manufacturer. In the 1990s the gallerist Walter Bischoff acquired it, had it renovated and in 1997 opened a private museum of contemporary art there. As a museum and gallery, the house combines exhibition and art market under one roof and is part of the Kulturareal Obere Fabrik (Obere Fabrik cultural area).
Across roughly 800 square meters of exhibition space, the permanent exhibition "Internationale Kunst ab ’45" presents painting, sculpture and photography, including works by Joseph Beuys, Andy Warhol, Thomas Ruff and Cindy Sherman. Changing exhibitions enter into dialogue with the collection. In the adjoining park, five original segments of the Berlin Wall have stood since 1999; there is also a sculpture park and the Zeller Kunstweg (Zell art trail).
