MVG Museum
Museum of Munich's public transport company MVG with around 25 historic trams and buses in an old workshop hall – open on selected Sundays.
About the museum
The MVG Museum opened on October 27, 2007, in a no-longer-needed section of the listed main tram workshop on Ständlerstraße in Ramersdorf. The spacious halls, where streetcars were once serviced, provide more than 5,000 square meters for the vehicle collection.
The museum traces the development of public transport in Munich: around 25 historic trams, buses, and service vehicles stand on two parallel tracks, from a replica horse-drawn tram car to vehicles of more recent series. The bus section ranges from vehicles of the 1950s to models from the 2000s, including trolleybuses.
The collection is complemented by numerous information panels, a subway driving simulator in an original car, historic switchgear, paintings, a small cinema, and a model railway exhibition. Museum operations are supported by volunteers from the Freunde des Münchner Trambahnmuseums (Friends of the Munich Tram Museum).
The museum opens only on individual Sundays, which MVG announces in its annual program; on several of these dates there is also a model railway market. Outside these days, the hall can be rented for events.
