About the museum

The Nadlerhaus on Viechzig street in Hundshübel is one of the oldest buildings in the village. It was built around 1750 as a day laborer's house; who built it and under what circumstances is unknown. Apart from minor changes in 1872, it remained in its original state. It takes its name from the family of a former owner: the family descends from Engelbert Nadler, born in Bohemia in 1862, and a descendant of his owned the property most recently.

After the death of the last owner in 1984, the house threatened to decay. In 1988 the municipality acquired it; in 1990 it was decided, together with interested residents, to restore it. With funds from the state of Saxony and much volunteer work from the village, it became a local history museum. The building has been under heritage protection since 1986.

Preserved features include the large stone slabs in the hallway, the house well with hand pump, the smokehouse, and a room that served as an embroidery machine room at the end of the 19th century. The Heimatstube (local history room) on the right side of the house shows the simple life of the ancestors; on the left is a room for about 25 people for celebrations and club life.
