About the museum
Since 1988 the Gründerzeit-era building in Fronberg has housed the Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus. The Kebbel Villa sees itself as a place for presenting, producing and supporting contemporary art, and regularly shows international and regional positions.
The house has extensive workshops for screen printing, etching and lithography, where courses take place and experienced printmakers can rent workspaces. The grounds also include a sculpture park and the Internationale Künstlerhaus run by the friends' association, which serves as living and working space for fellows within an exchange program with partner houses.
Three collections focusing on contemporary art are housed here: that of the Bezirk Oberpfalz (Upper Palatinate regional government, over 200 works, acquisitions since about 1960), that of the city of Schwandorf (around 300 works) and that of the friends' association (about 100 works). A large collection exhibition is curated every year around new acquisitions.
