Huth. Amrum – Expressionistischer Realismus

Marking the 50th anniversary of the death of W. Robert Huth, a painter close to the Brücke group, the association "Bunte Kapelle" shows more than 50 works from private collections on Amrum and tells of the artists' circle that gathered around him in Nebel in the 1950s (separate admission).

About the museum

The thatched Frisian house in the village of Nebel is one of the oldest houses in the village; its construction is estimated to date from around 1683. It was built in the regional Uthland style and belonged to a sea captain from Amrum. The living room still tells of this today: in front of a tiled wall depicting a cargo sailing ship stands a jamb stove from 1681, which was fired from the kitchen.

The local heritage and nature conservation association Öömrang Ferian, founded in 1974, acquired the house in 1992 and opened it in 1994 as a museum and home of the Amrum Archive. Since then, volunteers have guided visitors through the originally furnished rooms: the living room with box beds, the kitchen with an open hearth and the pantry. In the former stable wing, a guest room has been furnished in the style of around 1900, recalling the beginnings of seaside tourism on the island.

Alongside the permanent exhibition on cultural and economic history, the house presents changing special exhibitions. Since 1996 the captain's room has also served as a wedding room. The association is also committed to preserving Amrum Frisian (Öömrang) and keeps copies of historical documents and the papers of local historians.
