Oldtimermuseum Groß Raden
Association museum in an old granary in Groß Raden with about 100 motorcycles and cars built between 1924 and 1970.
About the museum
The Oldtimermuseum Groß Raden was created in spring 1999 on the initiative of a small group of vintage vehicle enthusiasts who in February of the same year founded the association "Freunde historischer Fahrzeuge" (Friends of Historic Vehicles). Their goal was not only to store their own vehicles but also to show them publicly and to document the history of vehicle and motorcycle building.
As the exhibition venue, the members fixed up an old granary in the Sternberg district of Groß Raden, whose rustic timber framing gives the show its special character. On three floors, about 100 motorcycles and around ten cars from the years 1924 to 1970 are now on display, complemented by engines and period accessories. Most of the vehicles are loans from association members.
On the first floor are automobiles and stationary engines, above them prewar motorcycles up to 1942. The top floor is devoted to East German two-wheeler production – from Simson mopeds from Suhl through scooters from Ludwigsfelde to MZ machines from Zschopau. Traditionally, the association opens the season on May 1 with the joint "Motoren anlassen" (starting the engines).
