About the museum
Monika and Dieter Klopfer began collecting classic cars around 1996/97, after visiting classic car events and private collections. It began with a Jaguar XK 120 convertible. The vehicles were first kept in a double garage, then in a rented hall and, from 2003, in a hall of their own of around 1,000 square metres in Nottuln.
After several extensions the site now covers about 2,500 square metres, on which more than 80 classic and youngtimer cars from a larger stock are displayed. The focus is on English and German makes, above all sports cars, powerful saloons and small-series models. A workshop of its own maintains and restores the vehicles and offers a look behind the scenes.
In 2022 the couple contributed the collection to the non-profit foundation Stiftung Monika und Dieter Klopfer – Technisches Kulturgut, which aims to preserve the vehicles and show them to the public. Since then, additional endowments from other collectors have also been added, such as an Alvis TD 21 or an Opel truck from the 1920s. The museum also includes the Wiking model collection of Karl-Heinz Pawelzik with over 14,000 model vehicles.
