About the museum
Otto Zondler (1900–2001) was an art teacher and painter in Nürtingen, whose drawings and paintings recorded the old townscape and the everyday life of its people. His son Ottokarl Zondler left a bequest to the Schwäbischer Heimatbund (Swabian Heritage Association) and attached to it the wish that a memorial be set up for his father's work. The Nürtingen regional group of the Heimatbund took on this task.
Since September 2011, the memorial in the Blockturm has been open to the public. The tower belongs to Nürtingen's town fortifications, first mentioned in 1354, and was formerly used as a prison; it is linked by a fortified walkway to the oldest known residential house in the town.
The exhibition presents works from different phases of the artist's career on text-and-image panels, along with city views, portraits and humorous everyday scenes. A media station covers his complete body of work, supplemented by a film and slide show; his work as a teacher is also documented. The Nürtingen local group also presents its own work and that of the overall association.
