About the museum
The company Pohl-Boskamp is one of the oldest pharmaceutical manufacturers in Germany. Its roots go back to 1835, when the production of gelatin capsules began in a Berlin pharmacy; later, production of enteric-coated capsules was added near Danzig. After the Second World War the business and its machines were moved to Schleswig-Holstein and rebuilt in Hohenlockstedt. Today the family business produces at the Hohenlockstedt and Dägeling sites.
The company museum is located on the Dägeling site, in the packaging and logistics center, and on about 250 square meters shows how the manufacture of medicines has developed over more than a century. Most objects are original pieces from the first half of the 20th century.
Work areas from production, filling and administration are re-created in their historical context. Exhibits include the tiny Desmoid pill, which was made by hand until 1993, and the first fully automatic machine for seamless soft gelatin capsules. At an original workstation, visitors can pack pills into small rubber pouches themselves, and historical film footage is also shown. A glass corridor leads from the museum past today's production.
