About the museum
The Stuttgart Police Museum goes back to the Polizeihistorischer Verein Stuttgart, founded in 2007 to collect documents and objects on Stuttgart's police history. After seven years of planning and construction, the museum opened in February 2015. It is located in rooms of the police headquarters and is run jointly by the association and the headquarters. On just over 240 square meters, it displays original items and crime objects from two centuries.
The exhibition is organized in thematic areas. A historic police station, furnished true to the original, welcomes visitors. Further displays include uniforms from the Kingdom of Württemberg through the Weimar Republic and the Nazi era to the present, as well as documented criminal cases from Stuttgart and the surrounding region. Tours are led by former police officers, some with their own experience of the cases described.
The association holds an archive with more than 90,000 historical photos, more than 1,000 books, and sound and film recordings. As a second pillar, the "Rollendes Museum" takes historic police vehicles to events. The museum received the Lotto-Museumspreis Baden-Württemberg for its work.
