About the museum
The Pomázer Heimatstube (heritage room) commemorates the German-speaking population of the Hungarian town of Pomáz, about 18 kilometers northwest of Budapest at the gateway to the Pilis Mountains. Settlers from Bavaria and Lower Austria had lived there since the 18th century as craftsmen and farmers; in 1946 they were resettled to Germany.
The collection came into being in 1984 from a private initiative. Since 1985 it has been looked after by the Pomázer Heimatverein (local heritage association), founded that year, and it grew into a small local history museum, which is also called "Klein Pomáz" (Little Pomáz). It is housed in the administrative office of the Sinsheim district of Waldangelloch, where the association set up the museum itself.
On display are tools of various crafts and their home-based production, textiles and costumes, liturgical objects, devotional items and musical instruments. Furniture and household objects are arranged in small scenes that convey an impression of kitchen and living room.
