About the museum
The Klima Arena goes back to an initiative by SAP co-founder Dietmar Hopp, who from 2014 planned an experience center on climate protection. In September 2014 the nonprofit Klimastiftung für Bürger was established for this purpose and still runs the house today; the project was financed through the Dietmar Hopp Stiftung.
The round building near Sinsheim's football stadium is an energy-plus building and received platinum certification from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen. Groundbreaking followed in October 2017, the topping-out ceremony in July 2018, and on October 7, 2019 the house was officially opened.
Today the Klima Arena presents, across around 1,400 square meters in four theme areas, how climate change arises and what it does: foundations, housing and energy, mobility, and lifestyle and consumption. Outdoors, a theme park with a moor, orchard meadow and play equipment deepens the topic of nature and biodiversity. The Gletscher-Kino (glacier cinema), with its changing short films, forms the heart of the exhibition.
