Port des Lumières

Center for immersive art in the Überseequartier of HafenCity, with large-scale projections of famous paintings, music and a Kids’ Atelier.

Opening hoursAdmission €19 Wheelchair accessible

About the museum

In April 2025 the operator Culturespaces opened Port des Lumières, the first permanent center for immersive art in Hamburg. It sits at the entrance of the new Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier in HafenCity, just a few steps from the harbor.

The architecture reflects the maritime setting: a wave-shaped facade, an outer shell of brick, golden design elements, and a replica ship's bow in the main hall. The hall has walls ten meters high; from a viewing platform five meters up, the action can be followed from a different perspective.

Paintings and visual worlds by well-known artists are shown as large-scale projections on walls and floor, accompanied by music. The shows run in loops of about one hour, and the program changes and differs between morning and afternoon. For children there is also a Kids’ Atelier for painting and experimenting.

Highlights

  • Immersive projections on walls and floor in a hall ten meters high
  • Replica ship's bow and viewing platform five meters up
  • Changing program with works by well-known artists
  • Kids’ Atelier with painting tables and an interactive projection wall
  • Located in the Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier, with a parking garage right at the entrance

Permanent exhibition

  • Kids’ Atelier – Creative room for children: pictures painted at the painting tables are scanned and projected onto a projection surface more than five meters high, showing an underwater world; wall stations respond to touch.
