About the museum
The "Pollo" was the narrow-gauge light railway of the Prignitz: regular service began on October 15, 1897, one day after a festively celebrated opening trip. The network connected Kyritz, Breddin, Glöwen, Havelberg, Perleberg and Pritzwalk, with Lindenberg as a hub at its center. The railway mainly carried agricultural goods to the standard-gauge lines, alongside a smaller amount of passenger traffic. According to tradition, the name comes from a dog belonging to the Dannenwalde forester that is said to have run after the first train. The first sections were closed as early as 1948; operations ended completely in 1969 and 1971.
The present-day association has set itself the goal of preserving the technology and history of the railway. Since the reopening in 2002, a museum train has again run between Lindenberg and Mesendorf, on operating days with historic diesel locomotives and, for special occasions, with a steam locomotive. A steam locomotive that has been parked since 1971 is currently being restored with donations; its new boiler is to be fitted in the first quarter of 2027.
The museum itself is in the old storage shed of the former station which, together with the converted railway works office, is the only surviving building of the former station complex. On two floors it displays originals from the narrow-gauge era, plus models, photographs and documents about operations, vehicles and the people who worked on the railway. On the meadow in front of the building, a 500-millimeter field railway runs its circuits.
