About the museum
Rühstädt on the Elbe in the Prignitz is considered the stork-richest village in Germany; in 1996 it was named a "European Stork Village". In some years, more than 30 stork pairs raise their young here; in 2025 there were 26 breeding pairs.
In the same year, 1996, NABU began operating a visitor information center in the village. The house on the village edge is looked after by NABU Brandenburg and funded by the State of Brandenburg. On the roof of the house sits a stork nest, from which a camera broadcasts live in summer.
The exhibition "Weltenbummler Adebar" has been thoroughly revised and since 2023 has been supplemented by the exhibition "Störche der Welt" on loan from the Naturkundemuseum Potsdam, which also presents exotic species. The center also provides information about the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve "Flusslandschaft Elbe-Brandenburg". In the outdoor area, a stork course and a vegetable garden with old cultivated varieties invite visitors to explore.
