About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Weilerbach (local history museum) was founded in 1964 by the senior teacher and local historian Reinhard Blauth, and is the oldest local history museum in the Kaiserslautern district. It is named after its founder. In 1989, interested citizens formed a friends' association on the initiative of the local municipality. After extensive conversion work in the Bürgerhaus, the museum reopened in its present rooms in 1993.
The tour leads from the Stone Age to the 20th century. Among the oldest pieces are two Neolithic grinding stones for grinding grain, nicknamed "Napoleonshüte". A replica of a decorated armlet from the princely grave at Rodenbach and wheel fittings from the Weilerbach chariot grave recall the Celts, and vessels from an early Roman cremation cemetery recall the Roman period.
A large part of the exhibition is devoted to the everyday life of the population in the 19th and 20th centuries, with tools, furniture, household goods and agricultural machinery. Wall panels cover the Reichswald, the churches and the Teutonic Order; documents, maps and graphics round off the collection. The museum is run by the local municipality of Weilerbach, and the friends' association supports it through loans, donations and lectures.
